Genius Confirmed
In the mail today, we received confirmation of Aly's genius. The tests that she took last week have already been scored and the results returned. First, I should mention that she actually took some of the tests twice. We received a call one evening from a teacher at the school. As they were scoring the tests, someone realized Aly's answer sheet or test booklet must have been mixed up with another child's. She was missing all of the answers. She had to re-take some sections of the test, and the results are in.
We have percentile scores and age scores. Percentile scores show her performance relative to other students in the same grade (nationally). The age scores also compare to other students the same age nationally, ranging from 50-150, with 100 being the midpoint. The age score appears to be equivalent to an IQ type score. There were three sections to the test.
The verbal section measures how well she is able to learn and solve problems related to words. The quantitative section measures the development of numerical concepts. The nonverbal section assess skills in using figures and pictures to solve problems. And here are her scores:
Verbal - 94th percentile - 126
Quantitative - 96th percentile - 129
Nonverbal - 99th percentile - 142
Average Age score = 132
She was excited to have received high scores and, of course, we are pleased as well. We'll soon be talking to her teacher about the Gifted & Talented programs she qualifies for. We've mentioned the possibility of a new school and she's less than thrilled. I can't see passing up this opportunity, so we'll let you know how it goes.
PS, this was week two for tennis. We found the courts this time and spent an hour. The kids are pretty good. They must have picked it up from me.

Congratulations to her. I hope she takes advantage of all they have to offer.
Glad she didn't leak some of that brain out when she conked her head!
