Half Way Through
We're halfway through our vacation, and I thought I should catch everyone up. I know you can't go on with life if you don't know where I've been and what has been happening [snicker]
Let's see, you all know I'm a Type A personality, so let's do date order, from what I can remember.
Actually, first, let's just say that Butter misses Zak, and she has adopted me as her human. The cat sleeps on my head and wakes me up by pawing at my eyes and licking my lips. There is cat hair everywhere in my bedroom and I've given up trying to keep her out. I have taken to shutting the door at night so she doesn't wake me up.
7/10-11 The kids spent the night with Ms. Pammie. She took them to the mall and bought clothes and shoes. They went to see Harry Potter and rode home with Pawpaw. PJ and Beau and Tara all stopped by and they went to the mexican restaurant for dinner.
7/12 Pawpaw took the kids to City Lake for fun in the water park.
7/13 I ended up working all day. I was trying to take a flex day but I went to the office till noon. At least I'll be able to relax this weekend. Pawpaw took the kids fishing.
7/14 We drove to NYC for crying out loud! I drove most of the way and Mike took over in NJ. He drove us through the Lincoln Tunnel and to the hotel. We walked around Times Square and to Rockefeller Center. There were LOTS of people. Had a great dinner at a little Cajun place.
7/15 Breakfast at the hotel and took the subway to Ground Zero. We did some street shopping and walked to Battery Park to see the statue of Liberty. The breeze was nice. We walked back up past Wall Street, through Chinatown and had lunch in Little Italy. We walked through SoHo to the subway and rode it back to the hotel. All that walking called for a pretty long nap before we went to see Spamalot. The show was hilarious. Mike and I had never seen the movie, and we are glad we hadn't. We actually watched it tonight and hated it.
7/16 Skipped breakfast and walked to Central Park. We went by the ball fields, the chess/checkers house and the skating rink. We walked across to Lexington Ave and down to 48th or so. Lunch at a Thai place near the hotel. Just a short nap. We were in line to pick up our Letterman tickets by 4:20 and went for drinks and appetizers before we had to be back at 6. The show started at 7 and our seats were fabulous. We were center stage, row 4!! The theater was not as cold as everyone says. Dave seemed a little off. We taped the Friday show; the guest was Julia Stiles. We walked a bit and ended up back at the bar for dinner and more drinks.
7/17 We hated to leave. We had breakfast at the hotel and left by 11. I drove out of the city and traffic was crazy, but the traffic cop near the Lincoln Tunnel told us we were coming through at the best time because we'd have been completely stopped at noon. We stopped in Jersey for snacks and in Maryland at an outlet mall. Traffic through Baltimore and on the beltway was practically non-existent. Dinner at the Tiyaki Grill. Mmmmm, sushi. Lucy ran away from Nana's house for two minutes and caused a panic. She was found and is now grounded.
7/18 Just hanging out at home. We had to unpack and repack. Went to see the new Harry Potter movie. I did a little bit of work to help out my boss and Mike went to school for about an hour. We had pizza and wings for dinner from a restaurant we hadn't tried before. Early to bed for an early rise. We're hoping to get on the road pretty early tomorrow and staying in Louisville tomorrow night.
Stay tuned for part two with tales of our travels to Boonville and the wedding.
