Day Trip - HA!
And so it begins....
Suddenly I recall the travel stories that peppered my blog when I lived in Indiana. Here we go again.
The early flights out of Evansville, which get me to DC by 10-11 ET, are at 6:00 am. They connect through Cincinatti and Atlanta, which are both pretty short trips. I've looked at flying from Louisville, but the direct flight isn't worth the 2 hour drive and one hour time change. Nashville is about 2.5 hours away. Of course, Indy is a good 3.5 hours. I live in an aiport-deficient area.
Anyway, a 6am flight means leaving the house by 4:30. In the morning. At least there's no traffic. Actually, there really is NO traffic. The trip from my house to the airport AND through security was less than 45 minutes.
On to DC, grabbed lunch and had my meeting. Back to the airport for a 7:00 pm flight home. In theory. We got out of the gate about 35 minutes late, but the pilot announces once we're out there that the plane in front of us has been waiting to take off for three hours. Apparently, while the weather was beautiful in both DC and Atlanta, the weather in the air on the way there was not so good. Unfortunately, the last flight to Evansville out of Atlanta leaves at 9:47pm. They left without me.
I hadn't taken any toiletries or clothes since it was only a day trip. At least I caught the morning shuttle back to the airport. This is totally going to mess up my expense report.
