I <3 New York!
What an amazing weekend!
First, let me say I did not care for Denver at all. Not enough oxygen or something.
My flight back was extremely delayed, so I didn't get to Newark until, like 4am. We slept until rush hour was over and drove through the tunnel to the city. We missed the turn onto 42nd right after the tunnel and proceeded to drive in large circles for about 30 minutes, trying to go north in Manhattan. It was an adventure.
After checking in, we did a bit of walking, but soon hit the hay for a long nap. We had a great dinner at the little Cajun place we found the last time.
On Saturday, we walked down to Little Italy for lunch, which took us through a huge farmer's market, which was very cool. After lunch, and some gelato, we caught a cab back to the hotel. Well, close to the hotel. You see, there's a story....
By the time we decided that walking all the way back to Times Square was not a good idea, there were no cabs to be seen. After at least 10 more minutes of walking (and whining, I'll admit), a cab suddenly appeared. Heaven! Well, no. This was the actual cab ride from hell. The guy was crazy, speeding, driving between lanes, nearly sideswiping cars and screaming at other drivers the whole way. The man was traveling 45 mph up 6th Ave. Now I don't know crap about NYC traffic, but from those we were whizzing past, I am pretty sure the speed limit on 6th Ave is more like 25 mph.
We were still blocks from the hotel when he hit a red light and I hit the street. Walking was suddenly a fine idea. I really thought we were going to crash. Mike kept saying "just don't look out the window!" Heck, I wanted to see my death coming.
Another nap and it was time for the show. Mike had tickets to Chicago, and I was really excited. Actually, I was extremely excited until I saw who was playing Roxie Hart -- Samantha Harris. You know, from Dancing With the Stars. Ugh! Well, at least the seats would be ok -- we had row bb so we'd be on the floor.
You know how in a sports stadium the rows are lettered A-Z, then they go AA, BB, to ZZ? Once, Mike and I got free tickets to a Pacers game in row XX. We got to lean against the top wall of MSA. Well, the numbering for the theater is different. Mike thought it went A, AA, B, BB, etc., but he was wrong too. You see, the double letter rows are the orchestra seats, meaning right up front. Holy carp! And here is the kicker .... there was no row AA. That's right, people, I sat in the freakin' FRONT ROW on Broadway for Chicago. And let me just say, Samantha Harris rocked that show. We were so close we could see the microphones taped to their foreheads (I had no idea) and the spit fly out when they talked. It was amazing. I think my favorite scene was when Roxie is the dummy on Billy's lap, and he sings but she mouths it. Again, amazing!
So Sunday morning, we went for a little walk and it turned out there was a street fair going on just north of Times Square. Booths with food and stuff to buy. We got some t-shirts, greek food and fresh fruit smoothies.
What a great weekend!
