Letter to Parents
I am not making this up. I got this email today.
And, of course, my son never mentioned it. He was actually already on the bus when it happened.

Letter to Parents
Below is a copy of the letter that was sent home with all West Springfield High School students today regarding an incident that happened yesterday. October 1, 2008Dear Parents/Guardians,Shortly before 3:00 pm yesterday, the main office of West Springfield High School received a report from a teacher of a possible altercation in the school’s Sports Lobby. When the administrator arrived in the Sports Lobby to investigate, a group of students indicated they had witnessed an adult male (non-WSHS student) in a verbal altercation with a West Springfield High School student. Before the administrator arrived on scene, the adult male had exited the school. The administrator went to investigate further, and a group of students outside indicated that the adult male had left school property.A few minutes later, another WSHS student came to report that the adult male was still outside the building and believed to have a weapon. Several administrators and school security went outside to investigate, and 911 was called. The adult male was seen at the corner of the property near Grigsby and Rolling Road. The adult male was asked to stop, but he left school property. The administrator and the Safety & Security Specialist caught up with the adult male off school property to discuss the incident. Fairfax County Police arrived on scene and took the 18-year-old adult male suspect into custody. West Springfield High School is committed to providing a safe environment for all students and staff. Based on known facts, students and staff who were on the premises were not in imminent danger. Please have a conversation with your children about their role in maintaining a safe environment at school. I would like to reiterate to students and parents that school policy requires students to be with a teacher, coach or sponsor if they wish to remain in the school building after 2:30. Again, our number one priority is the safety and security of the students and staff at the school. If you have any questions, please contact your student’s grade level administrator or me at xxxx
